Creative References

During our time looking at creative ideas, we were truly inspired by some living artist’s work.

Our Aunty, Deidre Martin, who is also exhibiting at the Barangaroo event, is a fabulous inspiration for us. She holds an immense amount of cultural knowledge and deeply understands the plants, processes and ideology of weaving. We really enjoy learning from Aunty Deidre.

Online, Phyllis Stewart and the artwork, Interwoven, spoke to us. We loved the textural lines, and the beautiful curves of her work. See the artwork here.  In addition to the beauty of the work, the ideas she spoke of really resonated with us – that weaving can be seen to be about community, and the network of people, not just a craft or a skill.
